BASIC SHUFFLE
Choreography for this section is unknown unless otherwise noted

MUSIC: "U.S. Choice Prime Grade A-1 Baloney" on "Sweet Fire" CD by Michael Elvin Hunt

DESCRIPTION: Fixed Pattern Partner Dances including Basic Shuffle, Shuffle Turns & Moves and Standing Step Patterns. Couples are in side by side position moving forward and counterclockwise around the dance floor. Use the "fast lane" of the dance floor for the Shuffle portion. Standing Step Patterns usually alternate with the Basic Shuffle. The Basic Shuffle is as follows:

POSITION: C/W Open Position. Gentleman and Lady are side by side facing the line of dance counterclockwise (CCW) in a perimeter circle around the outside of the dance floor. Her Left hand is extended across and in front of his body and placed in his Left. Her Right hand is extend up to her Right shoulder and his Right hand is extended around behind her shoulders, taking her Right hand. This is often refereed to as "Couples Traditional Promenade Position (or Stance).

BEATS/STEP DESCRIPTION
Shuffle Forward Leading with Left Foot with 3 Steps taken to Two Beats of Music
1 Take one full step forward with Left foot
& Half step slide forward with Right foot beside left
2 Half step forward with Left foot
3 Take one full step forward with Right foot
& Half step slide forward with Left foot beside right
4 Half step forward with Right foot
Note: This step pattern is usually repeated 4 or 8 times between performing the Standing Step Patterns. Often freestyle turns and other moves are executed during this part of the dance. Some examples follow.

CIRCLE
With lady on Right side, the man makes a small circle to his left (counterclockwise or CCW) as the lady makes a larger circle in the same direction, remaining on his Right side, and both ending facing the Line Of Dance (or Line Of Direction or LOD). This step is especially useful when you are on a crowded dance floor and blocked in.

UNDERARM TURN
With lady remaining on the man's Right side, man releases his Left hand, holds his Right arm above lady's head, and turns her to her right (outside) beginning on the second shuffle. He can turn her one or two turns.

DOUBLE PIVOT
1 Step forward with Right foot, leaving Left leg extended behind
2 With feet apart, pivot 1/2 turn CCW on Right foot
3 Step forward with Right foot, leaving Left leg extended behind
4 With feet apart, pivot 1/2 turn to CCW on Right foot
On this 4-beat double pivot movement, arm positioning for turns is as follows:
Gent releases lady's Left hand, bringing Right hand up and forward and over lady's head through 1st pivot; having turned, gent now picks up Lady's Left hand with his Left, thereafter releasing Lady's Right hand; through 2nd pivot, gent brings Left hand up and back over Lady's head, finally re-taking Lady's Right hand with his Right at Lady's Right shoulder, thus returning to promenade (side by side) stance. Shuffles ensue.

STANDING STEP PATTERNS

POSITION: In all Standing Step Patterns couples perform patterns side by side, usually in sweetheart (Cotton Eyed Joe) position and dance in unison unless otherwise noted.

DESCRIPTION: Since there is no progression around the floor for Standing Step Patterns, couples either step to the right edge of the floor out of the "fast lane" or cross to the left beyond the "slow lane". The patterns that follow may be performed in any order the couple chooses.

RHYTHM: Except for shuffles, a step or movement is taken on each beat of music unless otherwise noted.

NOTE: The patterns are named as "steps" (like in Ten Step) because the steps and not the beats are counted. However, each step occurs on the downbeat unless otherwise noted. In some cases, a "pause beat" (or two) may be required in order to begin the shuffle pattern on the downbeat of the music assuming the step pattern was started on the first downbeat of the measure..
